Bartender (Part-time, Experience & Daytime Availability an asset):
The position of bartender in The Brass Taps Pub and UC Event Services is a front-line champion in providing quality food and beverage service to our customers. Bartenders interact and converse with all members of the University Community including students, staff, faculty and community members. As a condition of employment, bartenders must be Smart Serve Certified and adhere to all Provincial and University policies surrounding responsible alcohol service. The successful incumbents will possess excellent time management skills, a strong work ethic, and enjoy working in a rewarding, fast paced campus environment. Customer service quality and care is our top priority and therefore it is an essential skill requirement and primary focus in our work. The role includes taking guest orders and accommodating requests, preparing beverages to order, performing regular inventory and bar duties, greeting clients and serving as a quality ambassador for our team. The position of server in The Brass Taps Pub and UC Event Services is a key part in the delivery of quality customer service and a fun, eventful and profitable role within our team. Servers are responsible for making customers feel welcome, greeting them upon arrival, and creating an enjoyable dining experience. Servers make sure customer orders are taken to specification, placing orders in a timely manner, ensuring complete satisfaction and an enjoyable experience in a friendly atmosphere. Servers handle alcohol orders and must be Smart Serve Certified before they begin work and adhere to all Provincial and University policies surrounding alcohol and possess skills in providing responsible service. Multitasking is a key skill to possess and customer care is the top priority during service. F&B Support Staff (Part-time)
Our food and beverage support team is an essential part of the flow of our service operations. This position offers the opportunity to start your experience in the hospitality industry or perfect your customer service skills. The role includes supporting our service team in the delivery of quality service, specifically, greeting customers, delivering food and beverage orders, assisting with table management, performing side duties, answering customer inquiries, and setting up reservations and events. Kitchen Prep & Cook Staff (Part-time)
Our kitchen prep and cook staff are responsible for creating delicious meals, filling orders in a timely manner to specification, ensuring consistent and quality production for enjoyment. The role is responsible for preparing the kitchens in The Brass Taps Pub and The Lookout: Rooftop Patio + Grad Lounge for success each day, utilizing learned menu development, culinary skills, and safe food handling practices to produce outstanding food for our customers. Kitchen staff follow consistent standards, practices and quality preparation guidelines to produce menu items and are responsible for adhering to all Public Health and Safe Food Handling policies as well as University Policies. Duties include working with full-time cooks in the production of orders, maintaining a clean and safe work station, complete kitchen tasks and assignments, use kitchen equipment, and help plan for successful service. Bakery Assistant Staff (Part-time)
Part-time bakery assistants help the bakers in preparing fresh-from-scratch baked goods for Campus Bakery Co. customer orders and special events. Bakery assistants will regularly prepare doughs, batters and baking goods, following recipes to specification. The position is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe baking area, stocking ingredients, and decorating custom baked goods under the direction of the baker. This exciting opportunity will aim to develop sound traditional baking skills and explore the science and creativity promoted through our business. Other duties pertaining to business operation may be assigned by management or bakers as the need arises. Lookout Service Staff (Part-time, Experience & Daytime Availability an asset):
This service position within The Lookout: Rooftop Patio + Grad Lounge team is a dynamic role with the responsibility of providing customer service to guests, taking food and beverage orders, preparing alcohol and non-alcohol beverages, conducting daily inventory and cash-out, and ensuring a clean and presentable venue atmosphere. Service Staff must be personable and able to converse with all members of the University Community including students, parents, staff and faculty. Smart Serve Certification is required and adherence to all Provincial and University policies surrounding alcohol and alcohol service is required. The successful incumbents will have excellent multi-tasking abilities, time management skills and a strong work ethic. Customer service and care is our top priority and therefore it must be a strong skill set and focus of any potential candidate. Licensed Security Staff (Part-time, Ontario PSIS License Required)
Our Security Staff team provides professional and respectful service and oversight for events, licensed activities, concerts and special functions in the University Centre and on campus. Licensed Guards will be scheduled to work large-scale departmental events both in the University Centre (including The Brass Taps Pub, The Lookout: Rooftop Patio + Grad Lounge, and Peter Clark Hall) as well as at other sites on the University of Guelph Main Campus. This position requires effective communication, keen observation, problem solving skills, conflict resolution, tact, and a positive demeanour. A valid Ontario Private Security License, Smart Serve Certification, and valid First Aid (First Responder) Certification is required. Guards are responsible for person-checks, bag-checks, ID-checks (at licensed function), as well as ensuring the overall safety and security of themselves, patrons and staff working at events. Facility Support Services & Tech Staff (Part-time)
Facility Support Services & Tech Staff are responsible for providing reservation and equipment setup services for our clients in all bookable University Centre meeting room locations. Staff will work with the Facilities & Programming Activities Coordinator to arrange service and required support for reservations, events and activities, completion of daily task lists, reporting of all matters relating to client services and room conditions, setup of equipment rentals, and response to service requests during their shift. Cross-training on reservations software is available. Morning and evening shifts available, candidates must be comfortable with lifting up to 40 lbs. and handling problem solving situations during high volume times. Front Office Service Staff (Part-time)
Front Office Service Staff are responsible for managing general reception activities, reservations, and equipment services bookings for our clients. Working with the Facilities & Programming Activities Coordinator and Reservations Coordinator, staff will accept and plan service requests; answer general facility inquiries by email, phone, and in-person drop-in; arrange general reservations and equipment rental bookings; assist facility support staff with tasks; audit/inventory equipment and room amenities; and assist with other tasks as assigned. Promotions & Marketing Student Staff (Part-time)
The position of Promotions & Marketing Student Staff will support our Facility Services, Food & Beverage Operations, and Programming Activities within the UC Services department with the planning, coordination, and execution of promotional and marketing activities. Promotional activities include developing a dynamic program for the advertising of services and events within The Brass Taps Pub and The Lookout: Patio + Grad Lounge; communicating facility activities and programming concerts and events; and managing social media pages with the goal of increasing followers and providing engaging content posts. Marketing activities include working with supervisors and management to develop and employ advertising features, providing updates to operational websites using Squarespace and Drupal, and developing creative ideas and concepts for new marketing and advertising programs targeting our student and staff/faculty clientele. The successful candidate will be enrolled in a marketing or related business program with a creative eye and experience using social media platforms and content design applications.
